For many years, Pine Ridge Dijon Clones Chardonnay served as a reference standard for Napa Valley Chardonnay. With its replacement Collines Vineyard Chardonnay, Pine Ridge has raised the standard. This single-site Chardonnay utilizes a number of Dijon clones grown with sustainable farming in the cool Carneros district in the southern-most part of Napa Valley along with winemaking to maximize the potential of the fruit.
PINE RIDGE Collines Vineyard Chardonnay, Carneros, 2016
100% Chardonnay (sustainable farming on a single 38 acre vineyard planted to Dijon clones 76, 95, 96, and 548) harvested at night and whole cluster pressed and fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged 12 months in French oak (50% new) followed by 2 months in stainless steel tanks with a late malo-lactic fermentation in barrels. Gold, straw color with well formed legs; dry, medium-full-bodied with freshly balanced acidity and medium phenolics. Delicious, fresh, next level Chardonnay in a modern but not necessarily new-world style offering ripe tree and citrus fruit with integrated oak and mineral. Goes on and on. Lovely feel. Layered-Textured-Dimensional. BearScore: 93+.
