An AMERICAN CLASSIC: Ridge Geyserville

RIDGE VINEYARDS Geyserville, Alexander Valley, 2017
A sustainably-grown, all estate blend of 68% Zinfandel, 18% Carignane, 12% Petit Sirah, and 2% Alicante Bouchet given a full crush before a submerged cap fermentation at the original Ridge winery near Cupertino. Indigenous yeast fermentation and indigenous malolactic fermentation.  Pressed after 8 days. Aged in all American oak barrels (16% new barrels, 29% 1-2 years old barrels, and 55% 3-4 years old barrels).     Purple-red color with well-formed legs; dry, medium-full-bodied with freshly balanced acidity and medium-plus phenolics.    No smoke taint (a danger with many North Coast 2017s).     A classic Ridge Geyserville offering red and darker red Zinfandel fruit (as well as a bit of black fruit) accented with briar and dust. Plenty of flavor and already quite tasty but could use a few more months to develop and open all the way up. While I have to think that this will score higher in a few months, it is already a fine example of why Ridge Geyserville is an American classic. BearScore: 93+.
Cash Bottle: $43.59.    Pick Six Cash Bottle: $39.23
