Wow Wine: Ch. PONTET CANET, Pauillac, 2011

Are you looking to gift someone with a truly great bottle of red Bordeaux this Christmas? Are you looking to drink a great bottle of red Bordeaux this Christmas? This 2011 Pontet Canet is a wine that is drinking great today and can be properly kept (dark 55-58° storage) another 10+ years

Ch. PONTET CANET, Pauillac, 2011      ($119.99)
A 13.5% alcohol blend of biodynamically grown 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petite Verdot fermented using pump-overs in a mix of wooden and conical concrete tanks and aged in all French oak barrels (60% new). (This was the last year before the estate added concrete amphorae into its aging program). Deep purple-red in color with well-formed legs; dry, medium-full-bodied with balanced acidity and medium-chewy phenolics. Supple, dark-and-darker-red-and-some-black fruit. Lots of tobacco leaf and gravel with hints of graphite and cedar, dark floral, and black pepper. Plenty of richness but it is alive in the mouth. Developing nicely and already showing some rich bottle flavors but still fresh. Classic Pauillac. One of the great wines of the widely under-rated 2011 vintage. BearScore: 98.
