OPUS ONE, Napa Valley, 2015
($332.49 Cash, $349.99 Regular)
An estate-bottled blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, 6% Merlot, 4% Petite Verdot, and 2% Malbec farmed using organic and biodynamic principles. Fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts. Aged 18 months in all new French oak barrels. Deep-purple-red color with well-formed legs; dry, medium-full-bodied with fresh-but-balanced acidity and medium-plus phenolics. Big, juicy but still restrained and even elegant Bordeaux-style Napa Valley (OK, Oakville) red offering classic Cabernet Sauvignon aromas and flavors with dark and darker red and some black fruit accented with tobacco leaf and black tea, warm spice, gravel-dust, and present-but-integrating oak. As expected. Layered-Textured-Dimensional. And quite delicious. BearScore: 96+.
