The Friday Fizz: VARICHON & CLERC Privilege Blanc de Blancs Brut from France

varichonbottleITS BACK! After a three-year absence from the Texas market due to problems with the importer, Spec’s is once more able to sell one of my favorite value-priced sparklers from France. Varichon & Clerc is back!
VARICHON & CLERC Privilege Blanc de Blancs Brut Sparkling, France, NV ($12.99)
A blend of five grape varieties including Chardonnay and Jacquere (from Savoie) treated to methode champenoise, aged 15 months on the yeasts, and dosed to the richer-end-of-the-brut-range (12 grams per liter), this (despite its recent absence from the Texas market), has long been one of my year-in, year-out favorite everyday-priced sparklers. Varichon & Clerc Privilege Blanc de Blancs offers a fresh yeasty nose that leads to good sweet fruit offering hints of lime and pear. With its clean, dry finish and fine mousse, it is very refreshing. Yum. BearScore: 90.
