Caves d’Esclans is Provencal Rosé specialist with the motive forces of Sasha Lichine (owner) and Patrick Leon (oenologist) driving it. The company makes several Rosé wines but Whispering Angel is the flagship. This is Rosé suited for a fancier beach party or other nicer summer evening event. Perhaps a Rosé Gatsby would serve.
D’ESCLANS Whispering Angel Rosé, Côtes de Provence, 2015 ($19.94)
A blend of 76% Grenache, 12% Rolle, 5% Cinsault, 4% Syrah, and 3% Tibouren fermented using rapid cuvaison (short maceration) in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks with regular stirring of the lees and aged four months in tank on its lees. Pale-copper-orange in color with well formed legs; dry, light-bodied with refreshing acidity and light phenolics. Great fresh, vivid nose with red fruits and citrus combined with some mineral earth. Maybe more of a beach Rosé than a food Rosé but still more than just suitable for lighter fresher dishes. BearScore: 92
