FRIDAY FIZZ: MERCAT Brut Rose, Cava Penedes, NV

MercatBrutRoseLargeThis seems to be the week of Rosé so the Friday Fizz will be no exception. Meet Mercat Cava Rosé which may be the best under $20 sparkling Rosé I have ever tasted.

MERCAT Brut Rose, Cava (Pendes), NV ($14.89)
A blend of 40% Macabeo, 40% Xarel-lo and 15% Parellada with 5% (red) Monastrell (Mourvedre) (all 15-40 year old vines) aged 18 months on the lees and disgorged with a final dosage to 0.75% residual sugar.      Pale-salmon-orange color and fully sparkling; dry, medium-light-bodied with freshly balanced acidity and light phenolics. Fine fruit-toast sparkling wine nose. Clean but slightly earthy with red fruit essence and enough citrus to keep it balanced. Delicious, fresh, mineral. Enough toast. Lovely balance. Delicious. BearScore: 92.
