Ch. HAUT VIGNEAU, Pessac Leognan Rouge, 2012 ($18.99)
From Eric Perrin of Ch. Carbonnieux fame comes this 13% alcohol blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot from Eric’s red wine only vineyard (planted to 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot) adjacent to the Perrin family’s Ch. Carbonnieux. Fermented using pump-overs for 20 days in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and aged 15 months in French oak barrels (no new oak). Deep-red-black in color with well-formed legs; dry, medium-full-bodied with freshly balanced acidity and medium phenolics. Balanced, integrated, very drinkable wine red with dark and darker red fruit accented with tobacco and gravel and a bit of darker earthiness. Offers elegance and succulence. Delicious. Great at the table. BearScore: 90+.
